CSF specimen rapidly degrades upon lumbar puncture. Cells combined within a CSF specimen have a short bench life and rapidly die. Immediate addition of RPMI medium and prompt delivery to the Flow Cytometry laboratory (within 2 hours of collection, ideally 30 mins) minimises cell loss.
