These tests are of value prinicipally — a) in differentiation of the cause of low plasma sodium; b) to differentiate between pre-renal and renal failure in certain circumstances where oliguria is present; c)in acute disturbances of sodium and potassium homeostasis, as a guide to immediate therapy; d) to assess volume status.
