Note: BNP analysis is performed on EDTA plasma.

No retrospective addons allowed on whole blood samples.

Note: A separate EDTA tube is required for BNP testing.

If requesting both FBE and BNP -1 x 3 mL  and 1 x 10 mL EDTA tubes must be collected and sent to the laboratory for analysis.

Reference Ranges: <100 ng/L

BNP levels are higher in females and increase with age. The 95th percentile in people with heart failure aged 55-64 years was 160 ng/L

 

From 3.8.2020, the Alfred is moving to NT Pro BNP as the preferred cardiac marker. Should BNP specifically be required, please contact the Chemical Pathologist to discuss.
