From 3.8.2020, The Alfred is moving to NT Pro BNP as the preferred cardiac marker.

Should BNP specifically be required, please contact the Chemical Pathologist to discuss / seek approval.

 BNP may be ordered for an approved Trial - these request slips will list the correct Test Codes

Notes:

A separate EDTA tube is required for BNP testing.

No retrospective addons allowed on whole blood samples.

Reference Ranges: <100 ng/L

BNP levels are higher in females and increase with age. The 95th percentile in people with heart failure aged 55-64 years was 160 ng/L
