EM findings will be incorporated into supplementary report issued by the pathologist.

Specimen dissection of a fresh renal core to select a sample for EM fixation is performed by Anatomical Pathology. Tissue size selected for EM must not exceed 1 mm cube.

Fresh renal cores require immediate handling.

Discuss the procedure schedule with the histology laboratory (62476) prior to sample procurement. A scientist will attend to assess for glomeruli and transport the sample.

Tissue in EM fixative should be allowed to fix for 24hrs then transferred to phosphate buffer for transport to Monash Pathology.
