From 3.8.2020, The Alfred is moving to NT Pro BNP as the preferred cardiac marker.

Should BNP specifically be required, please contact the Chemical Pathologist to discuss / seek approval.

BNP may be ordered for an approved Trial - these Trial request slips will list the correct Test Codes

Notes:

A separate EDTA tube is required for BNP testing.

No retrospective addons allowed on whole blood samples.

EDTA plasma samples (post whole blood EDTA sample centrifugation/separation) if stored at room temperature must be tested within 4 hrs. If plasma samples cannot be tested within this time period ,they must be stored frozen at -20C
