Fasting Sample

Marker of bone resorption. Useful for monitoring the effect of anti-resorptive therapy and patient compliance.

Plasma EDTA is the preferred sample as it is stable longer than serum.

Stability of K2- and K3-EDTA plasma: 24 hrs at 20-25C, 8 days at 2-8C

3 months at -20C. For longer periods store at -70C. Freeze only ONCE.

Serum is only stable 6 hrs at 20-25 C, 8 hrs at 4 - 8C,         3 months at -20C. For longer periods store at -70C. Freeze only ONCE

Haemolyzed samples (Hb> 0.5 g/dL) elicit a decrease in the C-Telopeptide (Beta- crosslaps) concentration.
