Alpha sub-unit Reference Interval (serum/plasma):

Male:  0.00 – 0.70 IU/L

Female - Premenopausal:   0.00 – 0.60 IU/L

Female - Postmenopausal:  0.00 – 1.30 IU/L

Pregnancy is associated with marked elevations in free alpha subunit concentration related to increases in hCG secretion.  Free alpha subunit results are of limited use during pregnancy.
