Laboratory:Haematology
Test Code:THC
Specimen Types:Serum
Container Types:
Plain tube - serum (no Gel)
Adults Volume or Mass:3 mL
Collection & Request Instructions:Collect at ambient temperature

Samples should be processed as “urgent” as Functional complement tests have precise collection requirements to ensure accurate and reproducible results.Plasma, heat inactivated serum or sera with pronounced hemolysis, icterus, lipemia or microbial growth are not suitable for testing and will not be processed

Collect 3 ml of whole blood into plain gel-free (neutral) serum tube- time critical - take to lab for processing of sample.

Processing Instructions:Time critical - do not delay handling !
  1. Allow the blood to clot at room temperature (20-25’C)for up to 60 minutes
  2. After clotting, centrifuge the samples within 60 minutes of collection
  3. Centrifuge at 3800 rpm for 10 minutes

4. Immediately transfer supernatant (serum) to 3 aliquot tubes (Sarsdedt 2 ml) ensuring there is 500 microL of serum per tube.

* This will enable all serum samples to thaw at similar rate when defrosted at RCH

5. Freeze all 3 serum aliquots at –70°C immediately until transport.
